Curriculum

HMH Big Day

Transitional Kindergarten

English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math

HMH Big Day uses a research-based approach to help children acquire social-emotional development. Big Day supports intentional and integrated pre-kindergarten instruction with engaging tools that help children develop oral language, emergent literacy, and social-emotional skills.

HMH Into Reading & Writing

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

HMH Into Reading uses high quality books that intrigue and challenge students. Offering a balanced approach to literacy instruction, HMH Into Reading uses engaging reading and writing workshops that help strengthen students' critical skills. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on productive annotation and guides students as they transition from emerging readers to effective writers.

HMH Into Math

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Understanding the “why” behind the “how” is an important part of math. HMH Into Math focuses on both conceptual understanding and procedural practice. Students must first develop their reasoning before they connect their understanding to concepts and skills.

HMH Into Science

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Into Science provides a coherent, phenomenon-driven storyline; delivers three-dimensional learning; and incorporates the Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning model.

HMH Into Social Studies

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

The Into Social Studies program teaches students about the world around them and how to connect with their community, their country, and beyond. They will begin to understand what it means to be a contributing member of society.

Positive Action for Christ

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Transitional Kindergarten will learn about the wonders of Creation to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, emphasizing the Father’s glorious love along the way. Kindergarteners will learn more about God’s work and character as they study the lives of major Bible characters. First graders will learn about the many gifts given to us by God, including the ultimate gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Second graders learn that when God gives a command, He also gives a promise. Third graders will learn about the lives of Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Daniel and that they can teach us much about the rewards of living for God. Fourth graders will learn our lives are like castles that God can build into strong and beautiful monuments to His grace. Fifth graders will learn that just as God desired His people to possess the land of Canaan, He desires His children to live in a spiritual realm of promise and victory today.

Enrichment

Transitional Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Computer Science is taught in each grade using a program called code.org and robotics.

Art is critical for every student’s preparation in the 21st century. SCS uses California Arts Standards.

Physical Education is scheduled and taught twice a week for all grades.

Music is incorporated into each class. Depending on the grade, we teach rhythm sticks, bells, recorders, and guitar.

Chapel is every Thursday. Each class gets to present a message to the school at least twice a year.

Christmas Musical This is a big production. All children are a part of the choir and can audition for speaking parts.

About our Program

Our After School Program is an extracurricular enrichment program for TK-5th grade. Each day is structured to provide experiences designed to enrich the social, physical, and emotional growth of your child. Opportunities for learning and enrichment are prepared in accordance with your child’s grade level and interests in mind. The program serves as a continuation of their elementary education. It will provide your child with time to work on their school homework and/or a broad variety of centers. These centers include arts, crafts, active play, and cooking. This is a safe and nurturing environment in which your child can grow in the company of their peers and make long lasting friendships.
